VideoLAN (VLC) Multimedia Player
VLC Media Player
Features
VLC player has to be one of the most light-weight and feature filled media players currently available for Windows and Linux. VLC can read DVD's, CD's, web streams, TV cards and much much more. VLC already comes with all the codecs that you will ever need so no time will be wasted on finding and downloading those codecs. The most interesting thing is that it can even play partially damaged or corrupted files. Although VLC will only play parts of the media that are not damaged, it is still better then many other media players out there who simply give you an error when trying to read a damaged file.
VLC is an open source project which means that anybody can participate in developing this software. If you are a developer, and want to participate in this project, then visit VideoLAN's developers page.
The most recent version of VLC media player can play the following input formats: MPEG, AVI, ASF / WMV / WMA, MP4 / MOV / 3GP, OGG / OGM / Annodex, Matroska (MKV), Real, WAV (incuding DTS), Raw Audio: DTS, AAC, AC3/A52, Raw DV, FLAC, FLV (Flash), MXF, Nut, Standard MIDI / SMF, Creativeâ„¢ Voice.
VLC is also recognized by its light-weight and customizable interface. There are hundreds of different skins and themes that are available for the player on the official VideoLAN website.
VLC player is free so you can download it here. If you have any trouble installing or using VLC media player then refer to the FAQ section on the official VideoLAN website or use their forum to ask a question.
