Choosing the Perfect Bedside Table

A bedside table is a very useful piece of bedroom furniture since it can accommodate you with a space to place an alarm clock, a reading light or simply a place to store your books and newspapers.Choosing the perfect bedside table for your bedroom among today's numerous designs can be a tedious task so here are a few tips that will help you choose the perfect bedside table for your bedroom.

What will you be using it for?

Think of what the bedside table will be used with. If you just need a place to store your books or an alarm clock then a small bedside table without any drawers should do the trick but if you are planning on storing a lot of things such an an iPod, a laptop, paperwork or a telephone you will probably need a larger bedside table with a couple of drawers.

Which design to choose?

The most important thing to do is to choose a bedside table that will match your bedroom's furniture or design. For instance, if you have a modern design, consider choosing one of the casual wooden or colored black bedside tables with simple lines and brass handles that will create a clean look.

If you are planning to buy multiple bedside tables then matching them together will also be a great idea. By doing that you will create a sophisticated hotel-styled bedroom.

If you really want your room to sparkle then you could even go for the mirrored bedside tables. They usually cost much more that the simple wooden ones but they will look great in small rooms. Mirrored bedside tables can make you room look bigger and even brighter that before. You could also use them to enlighten a dark corner in your room. Do note that mirrored tables required slightly more maintenance; they should be cleaned at least one a week with a clean piece of cloth to remain as good looking as before.

Which shape and size?

If you have little space between your bed and the wall the consider either filling it up completely with a larger bedside table or buying a slightly smaller bedside table to leave a small gap for another decorative bedroom piece such as a tall plant. Having a small useless gap between the wall and the bedside table never looks good.

The taller, thinner, European-styled bedside tables not always look good with the average American bedroom. They don't offer much storage space either but if you have a unique taste in furniture or are simply tired of similar designs, then a tall bedside table could be another option.

Where to buy?

For the casual bedside table designs visit your local furniture store. If you want something unique such as a mirrored bedside table then consider looking in online furniture stores.

Great hub. Thanks for some of the informative tips. I also think choosing a bedside table that's the right height is important. If you've got a low bed and choosing a bedside table that too high can be dangerous. While the opposite, if it's too low you might easily knock something over and there won't be as much storage space.
